The Harmony of Divine Perfection: Grace and the Attributes of God
A Narrative Companion and Study Guide to SUPAGRACE Episode 004
EPISODE CORE INSIGHT
Divine grace is not an isolated afterthought or a compromise in God's moral standards; it is the glorious, perfectly unified expression of God's entire character—holy, sovereign, omnipotent, wise, merciful, and eternally unchanging._
1. Beyond the False Dichotomy: The Unified Character of God
A prevalent flaw in contemporary Christian thinking is the tendency to divide God's character into competing eras or conflicting impulses. A common caricature suggests that God operates with stern legalism in the Old Testament, only to adopt soft indulgence in the New. Scripture forcefully rejects this dualistic division. God possesses absolute simplicity and internal unity; every divine attribute operates in complete, perfect harmony with every other. When God declared His name to Moses in Exodus 34:6–7, He proclaimed His mercy, grace, patience, and steadfast love in the exact same sentence wherein He affirmed that He will by no means clear the guilty. Grace is not God abandoning His justice, nor is holiness a barrier that suppresses His love. Rather, divine grace is the vehicle through which God reveals the supreme grandeur of His unified perfection.
2. Grace in Harmony with Divine Holiness and Sovereign Freedom
The Holy Satisfaction of the Cross
God's holiness dictates that sin must be judged. If God simply ignored moral transgression without satisfaction, He would cease to be morally pure. The glory of the gospel, as set forth in Romans 3:25–26, is that God sent Jesus Christ as a propitiatory sacrifice to satisfy holy justice. At the cross, divine holiness demanded judgment, divine love provided the Substitute, and divine grace bestows righteousness upon the believer. Grace does not lower the law's standard; grace fulfills it through Christ's substitutionary atonement.
Sovereign and Uncoerced Favor
Exodus 33:19 establishes that divine grace is sovereignly free: 'I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious.' Unlike human favor, which is typically drawn out by something attractive or profitable in the recipient, God's grace is entirely uncaused by human effort. Because grace originates solely in God's uninfluenced goodwill, it can never be earned by human performance, nor can it be lost by human frailty.

Immutability & Eternity
2 Timothy 1:9;
Malachi 3:6

4. Power, Wisdom, and Eternal Immutability
All-Sufficient Power in Human Weakness
In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Lord declared to Paul, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Because divine grace is backed by omnipotence, it does not depend on human stamina. When creaturely resources reach absolute zero, divine power rests upon the believer, turning vulnerability into a stage for Christ's glory.
Fullness of Grace and Truth
John 1:14 emphasizes that Jesus came 'full of grace and truth.' Truth without grace produces legalistic condemnation; grace without truth produces moral compromise. In divine wisdom, Christ exposes the real severity of sin through truth, while providing complete cleansing and power through grace.
An Irrevocable Eternal Purpose
2 Timothy 1:9 reveals that God's grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. Because God's eternal nature is immutable (Malachi 3:6), His saving grace is never an impulse or reactive experiment. Anchored in His eternal decree, God's calling and gifts remain utterly irrevocable.
